5 Wishlist Items for Every Small Home
Today I’m sharing with you some items that I am hoping to purchase (or create my own DIY version) and implement into My Wee Abode, very soon! So, here are 5 wishlist items for every small home!
FIVE WISHLIST ITEMS FOR EVERY SMALL HOME
I love sharing small space products with my readers… Here is another post on Three Items Every Small Home Should Own!

FOLD-OUT CONVERTIBLE DESK
The Southern Enterprises Fold-Out Convertible Desk is a great option for those of us who have a small home with no office space. This wall-mounted desk folds out to expose storage area for files and documents, shelving for decor (or additional storage) plus it has a little cork bulletin board to post notes and photos on. Though I haven’t bought this (yet), it’s been on my wishlist for well over a year. I think is would be the perfect answer for a desk, craft table, even a dining area! And, it would fit perfectly in my “entry-way” as the desk only measures 22 inches across, and I have about 30 inches to spare. 😉
Just FYI… I may be doing a DIY on this item. Even though it has pretty good reviews, I think I may be able to make one that is much higher in quality, and probably more affordable! So, if you aren’t in a hurry… stay tuned for a possible future post!
CABIDOR CLASSIC STORAGE CABINET
I REALLY think this item is SMART! If you are short on cupboard or pantry space, the Cabidor Classic Storage Cabinet might just be your new best friend! This nifty little “door” attaches to the hinges of your existing door, then opens and closes to and supplies what is often needed in small homes… more space! The actual shelving and dividers are customizable, allowing you to adjust the storage to fit your needs. This item has great reviews, and I’m thinking it would be a nice addition to my bathroom door. Still not sure about adding it to my front entrance door (that opens into my kitchen)… Cabidor or DIY open shelf area. Decisions, decisions!
IKEA FINTORP DISH DRAINER
Having such a tiny kitchen in My Wee Abode can be a fun challenge. I love my magnetic knife holder (if you haven’t seen that, you can check it out HERE), and I think it looks pretty cool, let alone saving my precious drawer and/or counter space. The IKEA FINTORP Dish Drainer is the same type of product! What makes this dish drain different from the others? This dish drainer attaches to the wall, again, freeing up precious counter space!
The nickel plated dish drainer comes with a water catch tray for dripping dishes. Smart in design and aesthetics!
BREATHABLE UNDERBED STORAGE ‘BAGS’
These attractive storage bags look more like boxes to me. The sides are reinforced with cardboard, and because they have a clear top, you can easily find the items you are looking for. The Homyfort Underbed Storage Bags are perfect for holding blankets, pillows, seasonal clothing (or those clothes you hope to fit back into one day… please tell me I’m not the only one!), or even seasonal decor! These storage containers also boast of being eco-friendly! Check them out!
(I think they are kinda purdy!)
IKEA NORBERG WALL-MOUNTED DROP-LEAF TABLE
Okay… it you don’t want a work-station combo desk (or something that looks like a cabinet on your wall), like the first item featured, the IKEA NORBERG Wall-mounted Drop-leaf Table may be a good fit for you (or me). This sweet little white table (that also comes in the BJURSTA black), easily mounts to the wall and then folds flat against the wall until you need it. Simply pull up, and the support arm locks into place. Fold it back down, and it becomes a cutie-patootie shelf that you can decorate or place small necessities on.
I think it might be great to use as a built-in-type desk, with shelves installed above!
CHICKEN WIRE HANGING BASKETS
Okay… for those of you counting, yes, this is number 6… I love this item, and I didn’t want to wait until next time to share this… and it’s my blog, so I can! 😉 This farmhouse style RSVP 3-Tier Chicken Wire Hanging Baskets is so handy for so many things. Obviously, for kitchen use, it can hold fruit and veggies, but I can also see it holding cute little cloth napkins (I only use cloth for economy-sake), white and aqua hand towels, a roll of paper towel (I know… but I’ve used only 3 rolls in 2.5 years!), real or faux plants, the list goes on and on! I have the perfect place to hang this, too! It may show up on the blog someday soon! 😉
What would YOU put in it?
So, there you have it… short, but oh so sweet! 5 wishlist items for every small home. But, don’t you think ANY size home could use one or two of these ‘helpers’? I love each of these items, and you may just see them, in some form or fashion, on My Wee Abode!
Follow me on Instagram this week… I’ll be posting while at the Haven Conference, and would love for you to digitally ‘join’ me!
These are all great space saving options! That drop down desk is really cool…I will be looking forward to your DIY on this. 🙂
Thanks, Marissa! Yeah, the drop-leaf is super cute, and practical! 😉 See you on Thursday, sweet friend!
Love it! (Your picture of the white IKEA table isn’t showing up for me)
If you are on your phone, Peg, I think we need to update our OS! (It didn’t show on my phone, but my DT is fine… and it’s viewing on other smartphones. 🙂 )
Julie you must have read my mind. I just went and got me some of those under the bed storage bins. There is no way we can let that space go to waste.
Awesome! Let me know how you like them! Have to use every inch of space we can! Thanks for the shout-out on your blog, friend! Hugs!
Hi Julie! This is SUCH a good list! I loved everything you picked out for the small space dweller. We have a small home too and are always challenged with finding better ways of using the space we have or even finding multiple ways of using the same space. I think you can make that smart fold down desk too! Pinned 🙂
Wendi, if I have questions about making the table, I know who I can ask! 😉 So glad we met this past weekend. Next year, let’s visit over a coffee or ??? 😉
So smart, Julie! I can use these items at StoneGable!!!!
Thanks, Yvonne! I’m hoping to do a regular feature on small home products that can easily translate to any size home! Hugs, friend!
Great suggestions for small spaces Julie!! I sent to this to my sister! XO
Thanks, Holly… Does your sis live in a small home? Hope she joins us here! 😉 Hugs, friend… I’m sure you had a wonderful b-day for your daughter!
These are all great ideas for small spaces. Actually I can see most of them in any home. I have two 20 something daughters living in small apartments that would love these too. Practical and pretty!!
Thanks, Patti! I like to think that the posts on MWA are translatable to any size home… so you just helped confirm that! 😉 Was so nice to meet you this past week! Maybe next year we can share a meal or coffee/beverage! Hugs!
Great ideas Julie! As a small home dweller, I am always on the look out to maximize our little space!
Thanks so much, Maureen! Yep, I know what you mean, fellow-small-home-dweller! 😉 Hugs! Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Julie
I have been happily living in my large family home for 30 years. As I am approaching retirement age, I will be downsizing in the next few years. Thank you for showing me how to bring out the beauty and function of a smaller space.
Marianne
Oh, what a huge change that will be, going from a large home to a smaller one after 30 years! We recently had the same experience with my mom and her home! It’s quite free-ing, although hard in other ways. 😉 I hope you come by more, and I hope MWA will inspire you more along the way! Thank you for the kind words, too, Marianne! Hugs and hearts!
What a great post! I have a very similar drop down desk from ikea and I love it!! Such a space saver and so functional.
Yes, I think that little drop-down table would be great for a small home (or dorm, or bedroom…) in so many ways! Thanks for coming by Naomi! Hope you have a great week! 😀
Those are great ideas! I did use many of them when I was living in small places!
Thanks! I really think the cupboard for the back of the door is genius! Have a great week, Joelle!
I have always loved the wire hanging baskets, and the under the bed storage is always great for saving space. Great ideas! Thanks for sharing at TFT!
Thanks, Amber! I really would love to add those baskets to my place, too! Always glad when you come by! Have a great week!
