AFFORDABLE SPRING and SUMMER PILLOW PICKS

Pillows, pillows, PILLOWS!!! Probably THE favorite decorating item in My Wee Abode.  You know why?

  • They bring a POP of color to any room
  • Insert covers are often affordable (like today’s pillow picks)
  • They deliver texture and dimension to our home decor
  • Pillow covers are easy to store and give us the ability to use the same pillows with many options for the season (this space saving idea great for small homes, apartments, rental homes, and tiny houses)
  • These ‘fluffy forms’ are comfy (especially if you remember to get down-filled or trillium-filled inserts)

As we take a stroll through these five collections (yep, FIVE in color groups), I’ll be sharing pillow tips along the way, so be sure to read through the whole post!

So, let’s get started, shall we?

Affordable Spring and Summer Pillow Picks BLUE

Blue is making a comeback, though I don’t think blue has EVER been out of style.  These lovely blue pillows can be mixed and matched and will look lovely in a living room or even a bedroom.

#1 Tip: Want fluffy and comfy pillows?  Down inserts are the way to go! (IKEA has nice ones, and they are SO affordable… we’re talking less than $6!)

(Distortion alert:  I’m not sure why, but when I resized these photos to be smaller, some were distorted. #2 and #13 are lovely linen covers… click and take a closer look.)

Affordable Spring and Summer Pillow Picks NEUTRAL

Neutral pillows in beiges, tans, and whites lend a light and airy feel to a room.  They are also perfect for mixing and matching with other colors (as in any of the colors being featured today!)  Neutrals are perfect for any style home and any season, too!

#2 Tip: Remember, some pillow covers are printed on only one side, and may have a solid colored fabric on the back (these one-sided covers usually cost less).

(Distortion alert: #25 and #26 are so pretty… click and take a closer look.)

Affordable Spring and Summer Pillow Picks GREENaffordable spring summer pillow picks three pillows in different prints in green variations

Give me ALL the greens!  Don’t you think green just SINGS spring and summer?  I love all the variations and tones of green and I think the color adds a lovely touch of farmhouse or coastal style, too! (And these days I’m loving me some dandelions!)

#3 Tip: My all-time favorite pillow tip… When using down pillow inserts, be sure to always purchase the insert 2 inches larger than the pillow cover, i.e., an 18″ x 18″ cover looks best with a 20″ x 20″ insert!  Oh, and when shopping for covers, make sure you are choosing the size you want before hitting the ‘purchase now’ button!

(Distortion alert:  These green ones really had issues. Click and take a closer look, especially at the dandelion pillow cover.)

Affordable Spring and Summer Pillow Picks GRAY

Gray (grey?) is another neutral that mixes well with just about any color (even yellows… give it a try!) And with so many options, it adds a touch of calm and cozy to living rooms and bedrooms alike.

Also, using a limited and neutral palette in a small space can give the effect of the room appearing larger than it actually is. 😉

#4 Tip: Be sure to look at the fabric being used on the pillow cover.  Lots of these affordable pillow covers featured today use embroidery, some have a fur-like texture, and others may be linen-like.  Think about how it will ‘feel’ for the season.

(Distortion alert:  UGH! #49 and #51 (although #51 is in the larger image above. Click and take a closer look.)

Affordable Spring and Summer Pillow Picks LAVENDER

If you’ve seen any of the recent spring posts here on MWA, you’ll know that lavender has been my go-to color this spring.  So of course, I would be remiss not to include this lovely seasonal color!

#5 Tip: Check those reviews whenever they are offered on a pillow cover (or anything you plan to buy)… they are ALWAYS helpful!

(Distortion alert:  #51… you know the drill. ;-))

And let me sneak in one more pillow tip… When storing pillow covers, simply ‘file’ them in a drawer.  Fold them in thirds, then in thirds again, and stand them up on end. You can see the colors easily and it saves TONS of space.  Another great storage solution for small homes, apartments, and tiny houses!

  5. I didn’t know we can get down inserts for less than $6 at IKEA! I like to sew pillows, but I usually use polyester inserts. I’d much rather use down…and at that price, a no brainer! Thanks for the tip :). I love your pillow picks too, especially the lavender ones. Great choices Julie!
