Tiny Home Christmas Tour

Spread the love

It’s the Bloggers’ Best Holiday Home Tour! Over the next week, visit 35 bloggers’ Christmas homes! Today, we kick things off with a tiny home Christmas tour from My Wee Abode!

A TINY HOME CHRISTMAS TOUR

Welcome to My Wee Abode! I’m Julie, a 57ish (okay, okay… I’ll be 58 on Christmas Eve) mom of two (four, if you count my daughter-in-love and son-in-love) and g’ma to five (soon-to-be-six) grands that I fondly call my jellybeans!

I hope you are enjoying the first day of the Bloggers’ Best Holiday Home Tour! We are all so thankful to our sweet friend Kelly from The Tattered Pew for hosting and organizing this five-day-event!

If you are visiting from Yvonne at StoneGable, a special welcome to you! Yvonne’s home is sigh-worthy, and I know her heart is to bring glory to the Lord through her lovely Tanglewood home… and she does!

Christmas In a Tiny Apartment

My Wee Abode is a 900+ square foot apartment located in a 55+ community here in So Cal.

My mother and I share our home, as I am her primary caregiver. Mom lives with dementia and the Lord has seen fit to bless me with early retirement this year in order to take care of her and begin blogging as close to full-time as possible. 🙂

So, this year’s tour includes LOTS of photos of our first Christmas here at My Wee Abode 2.0. Not only will you see our Christmas decor during the day, but I’m excited to be sharing a bit of twinkling lights, too!

Warm-up the Season with a Family Christmas Movie…

If you are wanting to kick-off the season with a holiday movie that EVERYONE can enjoy, here is a huge list of G-rated Christmas movies! You’re welcome!

Why Decorate for Christmas?

Some people may ask, “Why decorate so much for Christmas?”

Well, the first and foremost answer is, because we are created to create!

“C’mon, Julie… Created to decorate for Christmas?”

Totally! Let’s take it back to the beginning…

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

THE Creator created us in His own image. So, since we are created in HIS image, we are creative, just like Him!

Whether your creativity shows-up in using makeup, styling hair, woodworking, organizing, or even Christmas decorating, all this is a reflection of God and being created in His image. Kinda cool, right?

And what better time to reflect the Lord’s image than at Christmas… the season when we celebrate God coming to Earth in human form to offer His free gift of salvation!

So, let’s see how the Lord inspired My Wee Abode’s ‘reflection’ this year!

Tiny Home King of Christmas Tree

This year, I am so happy to be working with King of Christmas! (Thus we’ve been enjoying our tree since October, as we had some deadlines to meet in early November!)

a tiny home christmas tour christmas tree in middle of room with lots of ornaments
Using plenty of ornaments and ribbon makes for a ‘statement’ tree.

This 7.5 foot Queen Flock Slim tree is the perfect size for MWA. The tree includes 650 warm LED lights, and there’s no messing with wires on this tree with the special Power Pole Technology. Just pop-in each layer of the tree to the other, plug in, and voila! (And I just checked… as of the writing of this post, you can save an additional $100 off the already discounted price, making this more affordable and a great investment!)

The branches easily bend and the point branches add a delicate look to this tree!

This year’s Christmas color palette is muted red and mint.

I have to admit, I decided on this color scheme LAST year, when I could find the muted red ornaments. But this year? This year, it’s been pretty much like mission impossible to get my hands on any soft red-colored ornaments.

So I pulled out MY bag of tricks (just like Tom Cruise does in the movies… well, not QUITE as cool as *his* bag), and DIY’d some of my own custom color ornaments! Even Tom’s team could make these with this tutorial!

Tiny Home Christmas Living Area

Through-out My Wee Abode, you can see the muted red and mint Christmas color palette.

My new white sofa is make it’s debut today!

Adding mint chenille pillows to the sofa, along with a softer red snow flake pillow and striped pillow with both colors, brought the color scheme together on the white textured upholstery.

And the muted red 4-wick candle from Hearth and Hand smells great, and looks lovely with the silver and gray bottle brush trees.

The TV console is sporting a gorgeous King of Christmas 9′ x 12″ King Flock® Garland with LED Lights. This is the fourth year using this garland, and it’s still as lovely as when it first showed up on my doorstep!

Keep scrolling to see this in all it’s sparkly beauty!

These regal silver bucks made their home amongst the pines this year and are also dressed up with a minty bow and red berries!

These deer were originally gold, and I repainted them immediately. They are a fave birthday gift from my sister!

My silver pillar holders are another special gift from when Pier 1 was still open. The silver candle rings are super easy to make!

A Christmas Cabinet

It’s always fun to decorate the cabinet!

Adding some mint green ornaments to a wooden pedestal bowl is simple and pretty. Pro-tip: Place some crumpled paper or a foam round inside to fill most of the bowl, then add less ornaments!

Christmas Dining Area

The dining area has a few touches, as well!

The berries that frame the word art above the sofa are probably my favorite decor this year, besides the tree. Unfortunately, the berries are about as ghost-like as the muted red ornaments! So, again, being creative comes in handy! Praise God! 😉

Using the same red berry picks that I used in the tree was a perfect solution for the sold-out red garlands.

A metal tray with more ornaments and some faux greenery is a simple and affordable addition to our drop-leaf table!

Next to the dining area is my kitchen-cart-turned-coffee-cart-turned-buffet. Yep, my kitchen cart is too big for the actual kitchen, so it has gone through some changes since we moved-in this past April.

But, I love it!

I still can’t bear to share my kitchen. I’m still trying to decide whether it’s worth it to paint the cabinets. >.<

Adding a few pine cones along a bar is a simple and lovely way to add Christmas to a small area.

These metal houses are part of Target’s Wondershop Collection. This year, they are black tealight houses.

Add a large glass Christmas ornament to your home for a elegant, yet affordable, touch!

The little red sled is over 35 years old… a handcrafted gift from one of my bridesmaids. Looks pretty good, huh?

A Tiny Home Christmas Tour, At Night

As promised, here are a few photos of the lights twinkling at night!

The King Of Christmas Queen Flock Slim Tree has PLENTY of lights, don’t you think? No need to add any more in this gal’s opinion!

The ornaments really sparkle at night!

How about a tutorial for velvet ornaments (two different ways)?

The King of Christmas King Flock Garland looks even more amazing once it’s lit!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tiny home Christmas tour!

Next on the tour, you won’t want to miss Aliya’s home at Open Doors, Open Hearts. Aliya’s decor is always cozy and so pretty, and her Christmas tour is no exception!

Be sure to come back here each day this week to visit all of the lovely homes on the tour!

Love hopping with you friend!! XoXo

    1. Thank you for the kinds words, Jen. Yep… the lights are on all day, and they look great at about 3:30 as I have to close everything up for mom and turn the lights on, so it looks dark before it actually is. (Sundowners is no fun for dementia.)

  8. This was a lovely tour and I appreciate your talent and the sharing that you give to us mortals. I was going to make something special for my neighbor for Christmas, but she passed away yesterday. I feel so sad right now.

    1. I’m so sorry, Fernie. Praying for you and your neighbor’s family that you would dray close to Him through this sad time. It was very kind of you to comment, even with this trial going on with you. Hope you are feeling better soon!

    1. I’ve really enjoyed the tree this year! It’s been fun to see so many bloggers working with KoC this year!

  12. Everything looks beautiful, Julie! Your tree is just stunning! I’ve had a running argument with my kids about the tree…I’m a Christmas tree maximalist, my son declared that the tree decor was “…accumulating to an unsettling degree” 🤣. Fortunately, I have a second tree in my bedroom where I don’t have to answer to anyone about it!!

    1. Gotta love those bedroom trees that you can do ANYTHING to! Yay! After seeing Yvonne’s tree, I think I actually need more ornaments! LOL!

  13. Love the twinkling nighttime pics, Julie! And love your sweet testimony. I’ve been reading the old testament and am amazed at the detail the Lord wanted to make the tabernacle beautiful, even when the Israelites were nomadic. Beauty is important to God; look at His amazing creation! Yes, indeed, we were made to create:)

    1. Yes… I agree… Our homes and decor are just a taste of Heaven, as well as nature, our children, and grands! He is good to love us so well!

  14. Your beautiful tree caught my eye, Julie! Then I realized we are both in apartments! I think it’s wonderful that you are taking care of your mom. Sending you both best wishes this holiday season!

    1. Thank you so much, Julie! I knew that you moved… recently, right? Are you planning on staying in a rental, or are you waiting for a new home?

  15. Julie, my dear, dear friend your home is so beautiful! That tree! Oh, it is a stunner. I just love your color palette! You knew just where to all bits and bobbles and Christmas garland around your apartment so that wherever we look we see something beautiful! Julie, the vignette on your coffee table is perfection! The Joy, Peace, Noel signs says it all! That is just the vibe of your Christmas house this year. I pray for you as you so sweetly take care of your dear mother. God bless you!

    1. Thank you, Yvonne… your words and encouragement mean a great deal to me, as you know. 😉 Love you, and thanks for praying!

  16. Your Christmas tree is so beautiful Julie. And your ornament colors are gorgeous. You’ve inspired me to try this color palette on one of my trees next year. You have even more space in your apartment for a tree than I do! I love the way the mint ball ornaments look in your pretty wooden pedestal bowl. Your silver bucks are beautiful. Merry Christmas my friend.

    1. Oh, I love that you were inspired, and I can’t wait to see your use these colors next year! I’m going to head over to your tour today! I’m a bit behind!

  17. Julie, what a beautiful Christmas home tour. So many inspiring looks. Your new tree is gorgeous! Love how you decorated the top of your TV console with the garland and reindeer. So sweet. Thanks for sharing today.

  18. What a stunning Christmas home, Julie!! Your words really spoke to me this morning…thank you. I’ve actually seen mint green and red used together for Christmas but they totally work and you have done such a beautiful job of combining them! The new tree is so pretty at night with those sparkly lights! Merry Christmas!

    1. Oh, thank you so much, Rachel! You made my day! I often get “cute” and “adorable”, which are all find and dandy, but I really feel like I achieved what I wanted to create when I get lovely and pretty… but stunning! That’s just some major tinsel on the tree! 😉 Thank you so much!

  19. I love that you used Genesis 1:27! I’ve never thought of my creativity that way but now I’m elated! You are such a wonderful person and I love that you turn my thoughts back to the Lord. Love all of your Christmas decor and your tree and the ornaments are stunning. I laughed when you said the deer were a fave gift from your sister but that you painted them silver. My sister would have been offended! Ha! Merry Christmas Julie.

    1. Praise God, I’m so glad you were encouraged and edified! (Happy dancing here!). That’s too funny about your sister. I was with DeeDee when she bought them for me, and I said to her, “I’m going to paint them, okay?” She said, “I don’t care what you do with them, they are yours!” And she always loves seeing a good DIY makeover, too! 😉

  20. Everything looks SO beautiful, Julie! I’m loving the new flocked tree especially, but I love how you tied everything together so naturally throughout the room. The new sofa is a pretty addition too. Pinning!

  21. Julie, congratulations on your retirement and the chance to blog full time and the grace to care for your mom. This Christmas must be so special for you. I love your mint greens and that new white couch. Wow. And I love tiny living too:) Merry Christmas.

    1. Thanks, Ann! Yes, tiny living is quite free-ing, when you stay organized. My bedroom is still screaming to me to ‘free’ it up! 😉

  22. Your home is just beautiful, you did such an amazing job decorating, and you didn’t miss a thing, I love your tree! Your mom is so lucky to have you and to take care of her, what a blessing. Merry Christmas xo Kristin

PS I want to see the cabinets lol.

    1. Thanks, Kristin! So kind of you to come by! I’ll text you a pic, though you can see some of them in my spring home tour. 😉

  23. Loved seeing your new home; your decorations are just lovely! Congrats on your retirement! God bless you for taking care of your mom. I hope you already have the book, “The 36-Hour Day.” Creating fills a hole in my soul–gardening in Maine is time-limited, childbearing was limited to my precious 2 (after 2 miscarriages). I have found that I make especially pretty things when I am at dis-ease with something in my life. I love this quote from Emily F. Freeman, A Million Little Ways: Uncover the Art You were Made to Live: “Maybe those things bringing you joy do so because they are one of the many ways in which God wants to declare His glory through you.” I realy like that thought!

    1. Hey, Kathy… I’m glad you enjoyed the tour! Yes, I do have the book… it’s sitting across from me with my devotional books. 🙂 I love that quote you shared, as well! He can do amazing things through His children!

  24. What a lovely home tour Julie. I could feel your heart as I was reading your post. The Lord has truly blessed you. I always enjoy your fabulous DIY projects, especially these gorgeous ornaments, I am going to have to try a few.

    1. Thank you so much, Wendy. I always want to bring Him glory, and so often fall short! I so enjoyed your tour, as well! You have a lovely home!

  25. Such a lovely holiday home, Julie! I love the colors you used and your tree is stunning! You’ve created such a beautiful and welcoming space for you and your mom. What a blessing you are to her! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas, my dear friend! xo

  26. The red and mint color scheme is so beautiful Julie! I’m pinning that to remember for sure!! And the tree is gorgeous. As home decorators, we may not be curing cancer, but we bring joy and happiness to the world in our own way, right? Congratulations on your retirement and happy birthday! We are the same age (go class of ’83). Have a wonderful Christmas, my friend!

    1. Thanks so much for the kind words, Kate! And for pinning! LOL! And, actually, I was class of ’81… I skipped 6th grade and then combined my junior and senior year via homeschooling! And, I’m not even a ‘brain’! LOL! (You look amazing for 58!)

  27. Holy cow, your place looks amazing! Your tree is gorgeous and all the little touches are fabulous. Love your color scheme. No wonder you were born on Christmas eve!

  28. Your home is just gorgeous Julie and I really love the colors you’ve chosen. I am in the process of weeding things out as we are hoping this is the year we can downsize. With each item I add to the Goodwill pile, I ask myself “would Julie keep this?” You always create such a warm and cozy look in your wee abode. I’m hoping I can do the same sometime soon!

    1. Well, didn’t you just make my day! 😉 Marie Kondo, look out! LOL! Not even close! Thank you for your sweet words, Denise!
