RV Kitchen Remodel on a Budget: Green Cabinet Transformation: It’s finally here, though the WHOLE kitchen makeover is not quite finished! Take a peek at the progress of my RV budget kitchen remodel with green cabinets.

It’s finally done!

And the reveal is here!

With all that has happened in the past year, it has taken the whole year to finally complete my DIY painted oak kitchen cabinets! (Procrastinators unite… tomorrow!)

And I want to thank you for being so patient as I promised over-and-over to have my travel trailer cabinets finished, but didn’t deliver.

Until now!

And I’m happy to report, I’m SUPER happy with the results!

Before I reveal the makeover of the RV kitchen cabinets, let’s take a look at the before!

RV Kitchen Remodel on a Budget: Green Cabinet Transformation: Before

Are you ready to be underwhelmed with “all the brown”?

Remember, my RV camper was manufactured in 2010. Brown/beige were “in”, especially for travel trailers that normally see a lot of camping dust and dirt.

One big blob of brown, right?

Okay… we DO have some black appliances… which are NOT going to get a makeover at this point.

That beige wallpaper and palm tree border are in the kitchen and the slide-out where the sofa is. At least it *was* there! 😉 The border is gone!

Here are the plans for the changes in the kitchen:

  • Fill and paint oak cabinets DONE
  • Refinish hardware DONE
  • Remove and replace window coverings DONE
  • Makeover countertops, sink, and faucet
  • Remove wallpaper border DONE
  • Install peel-and-stick backsplash
  • Makeover floors

As you will see, some of the items above are already completed. Of course, the painted oak cabinets are definitely on the finished list!

The Reveal: Silvery Sage Green Cabinet Transformation

And now for the completed DIY RV kitchen cabinet makeover!

Do you see the window treatments?
Those were installed shortly after I moved in.

It’s a bit hard to get the “grand green effect” with the beige/brown still looming large on the walls and floors. But I put a vote out there, and you all wanted to see the progress, so here it is.

The color is a silvery, pale sage green. It’s a bit more blue than I expected, but I think it will look even better once I get the white backsplash and counters done.

green kitchen cabinet doors

The drawers were actually the easiest part of this project, as they were not real wood, just a wood look.

Ignore the fuse box, if you can. I plan to either paint it or ???

That floor is getting a makeover, too… so just look away. 😉

The hardware was easy to refinish.

I wanted to go with a pewter look that would help tie-in the black appliances. I’m really happy with them, and can’t wait to share how easy they are to DIY.

You can also see how smooth the cabinets doors look! The doors were solid oak! Filling them eliminated the wood grain and it wasn’t hard. And painting them wasn’t difficult either.

I’ll be sharing the tutorial on this soon! And I’ll be sharing more photos of the finished RV kitchen makeover, as well!

Next on the RV renovation list is either the counter or the backsplash. I think the counter needs to be first! I have an idea that is an alternative to my DIY vinyl adhesive counters I had in the first MWA loft apartment.

In the meantime, here’s a little practical decor from my RV kitchen now…

A jar of extra measuring spoons (I use them all the time), some tiny white bowls, and an iron trivet. These are all used often, and take up little space on my tiny camper kitchen counter. But, so cute, right?

What do you think of the cabinets? Are you surprised by the color? Let me know in the comments, along with any questions you may have regarding my RV budget kitchen remodel with green cabinets.

By the way, I’ll be sharing all the resources in my DIY tutorial, but let me know if you want info before that!

I’m also working on a post about how to choose paint colors for your home the easy way, whether it’s walls, cabinets, or furniture paint! Stay tuned!

  1. Love the color! The black appliances area also great with this color and it is so smart to repeat the black with your iron trivet and the drawer pulls. And actually, I think the floors and countertop look great and have new life with the new green cabinet color. (It is usually my preference to have horizontal surfaces like floor and counter in the same color family). It all looks fresh!

  2. They look wonderful! What a difference! Love the color…..a great choice! Can’t wait to see the rest….the backsplash alone will make a huge difference!
Am wondering about the idea you have for the countertops 🤔 can’t wait to see it all!

  3. Wow – that’s great! I love the color, and I’m really impressed with you refinishing all the hardware! I don’t think you need to do anything else with the fuse box – it matches the appliances and looks like it belongs there. I’m SO glad you removed the stickers from the appliances and the wall. That’s one of my pet peeves. Thanks for sharing the transformation with us – it was worth waiting for!

  4. Wow, looks great! I love the color of the cabinets and can’t wait to hear how you painted them. Please share a tutorial soon!

  5. Love it! The color is perfect and I really love the hardware you picked. Looks like a brand new kitchen!

    1. Thanks, Melan! I’m still having a hard time looking past the walls, counter, and floors! It will come! Also, I refinished the hardware… they came with the trailer!

    1. Thank you! I can’t wait to get the rest done… I just emailed a company for free product for the counters. Hope it works out!

  6. I love the transformation of your kitchen and the color selected for the cabinets is perfect! Would you be willing to share the paint manufacturer and color? My kitchen needs this!

    1. Thanks so much, Peg… and of course I can share the product. It’s Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethan Trim Enamel in the Satin finish. The color is Rainwashed. I used the product after some research, and found that professionals often use this product for cabinet paint. Hope that helps!

  7. Julie,
Yummy is how I would describe your cabinet paint color. So light and refreshing! Back in 1969 when I was painting a nursery for my last child and didn’t know the sex, I painted the walls a very similar color. White trim, white furniture and soft yellow accents. It worked for boy or girl and it wasn’t the old pink/blue of those days. By the way, it was a boy.

    1. Wow! To think that color was ‘in’ in the 60s! I remember painting my son’s nursery in 1990 a light aqua color… more green than these cabinets. What goes around, comes around!

    1. Thanks so much, Lydia! (Feel free to link-up to Tuesday Turn About. The party starts tomorrow at 6am EST. Hope to see you there!)

  9. Love the color Julie! You did a fabulous job and it really lightened up the space. I know you want to redo the counters, floors, backsplash etc. But with the new paint color it has refreshed all the materials. Take your time and it will all be beautiful before you know it. Thank you for sharing, it was wonderful to see. Can’t wait for more. XO- MaryJo

  10. They look great, Julie!! I absolutely love the color. I love greens that lean more toward blue than toward yellow. At our previous house, I was wanting to choose a light green color for our kitchen walls because our countertops were a darker green. Our painter kept telling me that the counters leaned more blue, so I should try a paint color that did too, but I just couldn’t figure out what she meant. The countertops just looked green to me. So I tried samples of color after color. Then, I found the perfect green color for the wall that surprise, surprise leaned more blue. haha Paint can be so difficult! Your cabinets are gorgeous!
