CHRISTMAS DECOR and DIY IDEAS FOR A SMALL HOME
The Christmas spirit is starting early this year for many people! And can you blame ’em us?
Do you remember the Brilliant Colors of Fall Home Tour? It was so lovely and so inspiring.
Well, this weekend, I’m starting to prepare My Wee Abode for the Christmas tour coming December 2nd! We’ll have at least 25 bloggers over 5 days sharing their Christmas homes and decor! Be sure to put it on your calendar!
In the meantime, I thought some tiny house Christmas inspiration might be in order. Oh, but don’t worry… all these Christmas decor and DIY ideas are great for any size home, whether you live in a mansion or a dorm room!

Big Ideas for Decorating a Small Tree
Just a reminder, My Wee Abode is a 400 square foot loft apartment located in sunny So Cal, just minutes from the beach.
Small Christmas trees are a must in tiny spaces, especially an apartment, dorm, or even a recreational vehicle (yes, people DO live in RVs!).
Here’s some simple, but helpful, ideas for decorating a small tree.
Tiny Christmas trees are even fun to put in a bedroom or kitchen! Go wild with your seasonal self!
Easy DIY Christmas Ornaments
But before you start decorating that tree, why not create some gorgeous ornaments with a casual vibe… you might even call them coastal, but you can put your own twist on these!
Decorate a Christmas Mantel with a Flocked Garland
Using a flocked garland from King of Christmas was a highlight of my decor last year!
It’s easy to create a faux Christmas mantel using this amazing pre-lit garland and adding just a few snowy elements! You can be sure that this garland will be making another appearance this year!
FREE Winter and Christmas Printable Art
You just can’t beat free, right? Especially when it’s easy and beatiful.
There are LOTS of free printable available in the My Wee Abode Printables Library. And these Christmas and Winter printables are just the beginning!
These make great gifts, too! Just print and pop in a frame! Great for hostess gifts, Christmas newlyweds or your college student!

Holiday Nutmeg Cookies
How ’bout some yummy cookies to go with that coffee (or tea, or cocoa)?
These nutmeg cookies have a secret ingredient that just might surprise you. They are a family favorite around here!
Easy 15-Minute Winter Wreath
You can’t have a Christmas-decor-and-diy-ideas-for-a-small-home-post without a wreath, right?
This wintery coastal wreath seriously took about 15 minutes to put together. And, if you want to make it more ‘Christmas-y”, drop the coastal elements and add more pinecones, berries and ornaments! Tada!
Little Wooden Christmas Houses – Christmas DIY
These wooden houses from Crissy at First Day of Home are easy to make and are SO stinkin’ cute!

Outdoor Christmas Decor Inspiration for a Small Home
Although in comparison to My Wee Abode I wouldn’t call her home small, Paula from Sweet Pea is sharing her tips on how to add Christmas decor to a small porch.
Isn’t that monogram wreath pretty (and so unique)?!
Christmas Decor and DIY Plush Trees
You don’t even have to know how to sew to create these lovely stuffed Christmas trees from County Road 407! But you CAN sew them, if you want… but you don’t have to (did I mention that?).
Cindy is sharing how to create these lovely fabric Christmas trees and also shows how we can embellish them to fit our holiday style! Gotta love these!
Small House Glitter Ornaments
Well, talk about small homes! Michelle from Thistle Key Lane is sharing how to create these lovely, sparkly house ornaments. I love how these are tiny, yet they make a big statement on a Christmas tree!
You could even use these on a mantel or in a centerpiece for your Christmas dinner table!
So tell me, are you inspired to start your Christmas decorating early? What style will you be going with? Rustic, glam, farmhouse, coastal, minimal? I’d love to hear your plans in the comments!
What great ideas! Thank you so much for including me in this roundup of DIY Christmas ideas!
Of course, Rita… always love your projects!
Beautiful post Julie! I’m starting my Christmas decorating this weekend and using the glitter houses again this year. Thanks so much for sharing the post!
They are so pretty! Will they be on your tree or somewhere else?
Thanks for the feature Julie. I’m going back to pin a few ideas for myself. 🙂
Thanks for letting me feature you! And thanks for pinning… whichever ones you pinned! Hehe!
Love all these ideas! So much Christmas inspiration! The houses are my favorite!
Happy day friend!
KariAnne
Thanks, KariAnne! Yes, those houses are super fun, but the ornaments and the wooden ones!
I really liked a lot of these ideas–the blue bulb with the seaside vibe fascinated me.Liked the starfish on the wreathe, too! I’m slow–but I got all of my Halloween stuff put away this past week! This week is devoted to last minute baking and crafting for the church bazaar on 11/14, THEN I will think more about our Christmas! I delivered a bag of wrapped Christmas to my daughter on Sat. to get 1 bag of clutter out from underfoot! I tend to do traditional with 2 Nativity sets, a tree with multi-colored lights and a mix of ornaments. Am going heavy on little red truck decor, though! Found gift bags at Dollar Tree this week. Have framed several prints of different trucks. Have pillows to make from placemats!
The red truck decor sounds so fun, Kathy! You are one busy lady! Enjoy! Hugs!
Julie, thanks so much for including my little wooden houses in your roundup! I love all of your Christmas decor ideas. I think one of my favorite Christmas posts of yours was the flocked garland and that coastal ornament. Okay, I guess that’s two favorites! Happy Holidays to you! I can’t wait to see your tour in December! Hugs, Crissy
You’re allowed TWO faves… this time! Thanks for stopping in and letting me share your lovely wooden houses!
I’m inspired! But not ready. Although I may kick in a few crafty projects soon and you have spectacular ideas here. I’ve made the little houses before — I love them. The cloche idea is so cute. Those nutmeg cookies look fabulous too! I wish we had Thanksgiving like they do in Canada — mid-October. Then I’d feel better about decking the halls early!
Hey, Jeanie… so glad you are inspired. Yes, I’ve often thought how nice it might be to have Thanksgiving at the same time our Canadian friends do! The price we pay for living in the U.S., I guess!
Thank you so much for including my home in your Christmas inspiration post. I enjoyed all of the posts shared and now am ready to dive into Christmas decorating in my home.
Of course! Love your home and your style! Hugs, dear friend!
Wonderful inspiration all in one spot! I had to pin the Merry & Bright printable and the fabric trees.
Oh, those trees are so cute, right, Allyson? I have some of my own coming this season, too!
I knew you had a wee abode, but I didn’t realize it was that wee! You have really made it so functional and inviting! Great holiday ideas for any size home! XO
Hehe… yep… very tiny! It’s the perfect size for me, except when I’m renovating or decorating… then I don’t have much room to walk with containers etc.
I love all these fun ideas! I especially like the cute fabric Christmas trees!
Cindy’s trees are adorable! So smart and easy!
These are all so adorable Julie! I’d love to give (or receive!) any one of them as a gift! Thank you so much for sharing it with us at Farmhouse Friday!
Of course! So happy to join you!
so many great ideas….I love those sparkly house ornaments, and the nutmeg cookies sound amazing!
Yes, the nutmeg cookies are super yummy!
